Grade Levels: K–3 and Beyond
Opening grades
The proposed experience in each opening grade
Kindergarten
Building routines, friendships, and a love of school. Children develop letter-sound knowledge, early writing, number sense, and first Spanish words, with plenty of play and exploration.
First grade
Becoming readers and writers. Students strengthen decoding and fluency, write in complete sentences, work with addition and subtraction, and investigate the world through science and social studies.
Second grade
Growing independence. Students read longer texts, write with more detail, deepen place value and problem-solving, and take on bigger roles in classroom projects.
Third grade
Reading to learn. Students tackle richer texts, multiplication and fractions, research projects, and leadership roles — preparing to move up as the school adds fourth grade.
These overviews are proposed. Specific curriculum materials have not yet been selected.
Planned grade expansion
Growing one grade at a time
We plan to open with kindergarten through third grade, then add one grade level each year as our founding students move up — until The Village serves kindergarten through eighth grade.

Growing with our students
Upper elementary and middle grades
As our founding students move up, we plan to add fourth and fifth grade, then sixth through eighth grade. Plans for the upper grades — including deeper Spanish, expanded MicroSociety roles, and greater student leadership — will be developed and shared as we approach each new year.
Stay connected
